Malayalam Mother's Cuisine Kerala

If you ever find yourself on Terminus Road in Eastbourne and craving a taste of Kerala, Malayalam Mother's Cuisine Kerala is where you’ll want to be. Tucked into the heart of the town at 229-231 Terminus Rd, this unassuming gem doesn’t just serve food - it delivers a full cultural experience straight from South India.

The first thing that hits you isn’t just the aroma of coconut, curry leaves, and freshly ground spices wafting through the air - it’s the warmth. The kind of warmth that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into someone’s home rather than a restaurant. The décor is simple but rooted in authenticity, and the service? Exceptionally personal. It’s one of those places where the staff don’t just take your order - they talk to you. Want to know the difference between a Thali and a Kizhi Biriyani? They’ll walk you through it like you’re part of the family.

The menu at Malayalam Mother's Cuisine Kerala is a joyful tribute to traditional Malayali cooking. The Masala Dosa comes crisp and golden, paired with sambar and coconut chutney that tastes just like you’d get in Kochi. If you’re after something heartier, their Beef Curry with Kerala Paratha is a must - the paratha is flaky and buttery, perfect for mopping up the rich, spicy gravy. There’s also the Nadan Pothu Curry, slow-cooked with deep flavors and an undeniable kick of home-style spice.

Seafood lovers, take note: the Fish Curry here is bold and unapologetic, and the Curried Fish has that tamarind tang you’ll crave long after the last bite. Don’t skip the Salmon Fry or Kallappam, the toddy-shop style rice and coconut bread that’s rare to find done right in the UK. Pair those with Appam and Egg Roast for a breakfast you’ll think about all day.

For those who prefer a vegetarian route, the Chilli Paneer, Vadai, and Vegetarian Thali stand out for their flavor layering and attention to detail. Vegan and healthy options are also well represented, making the restaurant a flexible choice for mixed groups.

One thing that sets Malayalam Mother's Cuisine Kerala apart from other Indian spots in Eastbourne is their focus on small plates and quick bites - perfect if you just want a Chicken Puff, a Pappadom, or even a spicy Soup to get your taste buds going. It’s not just about full meals; this place caters to every level of hunger, from a snack craving to a full-blown Kerala feast.

Beverage-wise, the options are surprisingly varied. They serve great coffee and have a carefully curated tea selection that includes robust South Indian chai. For those dining in the evening, there’s a well-stocked bar offering beer, cocktails, spirits, and wine, all served with a smile. If you're looking for a halal-friendly or alcohol-free meal, those needs are thoughtfully catered to as well.

The setting is relaxed and informal, with outdoor seating available for those sunny Eastbourne afternoons. Inside, the wheelchair-accessible entrance and facilities make the space welcoming to everyone. Whether you’re stopping in for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or just a late-night food run, this restaurant is consistently buzzing - a sign of both its loyal local following and curious newcomers who can’t resist the aromas coming from the kitchen.

Malayalam Mother's Cuisine Kerala also offers delivery and takeaway, making it easy to enjoy their food from the comfort of your home. If you're in the area for work or travel, it's a fantastic solo dining spot that doesn’t make you feel out of place.

For anyone seeking true Kerala flavors - not the anglicized versions you find in many other places - this restaurant is a game-changer. From the Aadu Kizhi Biriyani, wrapped and steamed for maximum aroma, to the crisp yet fluffy Porotta served with piping hot curry, every dish has a story, and you can taste the tradition in each bite.

Authentic Indian restaurant from Kerala. Had delious food . Only it was too long wait 45 minutes to get our food on table. Kids can’t wait that much.

We’ve been to Malayalam Mother’s Cuisine – Kerala a few times now, and overall, it’s a good place if you’re curious to try authentic South Indian food, especially from Kerala. The location is lovely, right on the seafront, and the vibe is relaxed — but I definitely recommend reserving in advance, especially on weekends, as it gets quite busy. The menu has a good mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, which we appreciate. On our visits, we tried a few different dishes. The dosa was honestly a bit underwhelming — not as crisp or flavorful as we expected. But the Malabar biryani was a definite highlight — fragrant, well-cooked, and rich in spices. We also had the Chilli Paneer, which was just okay — a bit too saucy and could’ve used more balance. On a previous visit, we tried one of their curries (I think it was the Kerala-style chicken curry), and that was quite good — comforting and spicy, just as it should be. Drinks are available (a nice bonus), and the staff are always friendly and helpful, which adds to the experience. In short, it’s not a fancy restaurant, but if you’re in Eastbourne and want to try authentic Kerala cuisine, it’s definitely worth checking out. Go for the biryani and curry — skip the dosa if you’re picky about South Indian standards.

Had a weekend in Eastbourne and wanted to try something new. Lovely restaurant, call to book to avoid disappointment as this little restaurant was busy on Saturday night when we went. Staff were attentive, informative. Food tasted amazing. Was a little spicy for me and one of the staff members "Estha" made it less spicy, nothing seemed too much trouble. Amazing to try if you like a little spice

Discovered this place through a very high placing on TripAdvisor. Went on a Friday night and it lives up to its ratings. Food was excellent, the set menu with 7 dish curry main was fab and the dessert was to die tmfor. Friendly and attentive service but allowing us to stay for a couple of hours without chasing us out. We will be going back.
